Escrever sobre um álbum é algo que me dá gozo fazer, até porque se o faço é porque o mesmo merece que lhe dedique tempo (vantagens de ter um blogue...). E o facto de cada vez mais músicos me contatarem para o efeito mostra que o meu trabalho está a ser reconhecido e é algo mais que uma simples opinião. Obviamente não posso esquecer a responsabilidade das minhas palavras, independentemente da sua importância relativa. Mas chega de rodeios, hoje estou aqui para falar do álbum de estreia dos A Constant Storm, “Storm Alive”.

Evito fazer comparações entre bandas mas vou estabelecer aqui um paralelismo. Acho que não me vão levar a mal até porque os membros desta banda fazem também parte de outra, os Moonshade. E como já tive o prazer de analisar o álbum de estreia destes (podem ler aqui), creio ter algum à-vontade para falar. Em termos de conceptualidade este parece-me um trabalho mais descomprometido, tanto musical como liricamente falando; apesar dessa liberdade, a estrutura rítmica do álbum está bem cadenciada criando uma fluidez sonora que em certas partes nos agarra de tal forma que nem damos pelas mudanças de faixa. Musicalmente, a sonoridade principal é o death metal melódico, aqui com um toque mais arabesco o que lhe confere algum exotismo. A guitarra soa na perfeição e agradou-me especialmente a bateria, com a banda a optar por uma bateria variada em detrimento de constantes blast beats e dupla pedaleira que normalmente se usam e abusam. As vozes estão muito bem trabalhadas, não só em termos de intensidade como de força, roçando a perfeição.
Por vezes, quando elementos de uma banda criam um projeto alternativo que se enquadra na sonoridade habitual tendem a criar algo que soa quase ao mesmo. Neste caso conseguiram criar algo diferente dentro do mesmo, é como se os álbuns fossem dois irmãos de feitios opostos que caminham lado-a-lado. Sem dúvida que leva o selo de recomendado!

To write about an album it’s something that pleases me, even because if I do it it’s because it deserves the time I dedicate him (advantages of having a blog…). And the fact that more musicians come to me for that effect shows that my work is being recognized and it’s more than a mere opinion. Obviously I cannot forget the responsibility my words have, independently of their relatively importance. But to speak straight to the point today I’m here to talk about A constant Storm’s debut, “Storm Alive”.
I avoid making comparisons between bands but I’ll establish a parallel here. I do believe they won’t take it badly even because A Constant Storm’s band members are also members of another one, Moonshade. And because I had the pleasure of reviewing their debut album (you can read it here, PT only), I do believe I can speak freely. Regarding conceptuality this album seems more of an uncompromised work, both musical and lyrically speaking; although all that freeness the musical structure of the rhythm is well paced creating a sound volubility which, in certain parts, it entangles us in a way we can’t even tell the gaps between tracks. Musically, its main sonority is melodical death metal with a twitch of arabesque that grants it some exotic touch. The guitar sounds perfectly and I was particularly pleased with the drums with the band choosing to use various sounds instead of the typical blasts beats and double pedal that bands normally tend to overdo. The voices are well placed, not only in terms of intensity but also in strength, almost touching perfection.
Sometimes, when members of a band create an alternative project that fits in their usual sound they tend to create something that sounds almost the same. In this case they’ve managed to create something different inside the same, as if both albums were brothers with a different temper that walk side-by-side. Definitely a recommended one!
