Existence Failed - Putrefaction Of This Modern Time

After a long seven years hiatus German Existence Failed are back with a new work called “Putrefaction Of This Modern Time”.

Built in a metalcore base, this gents brings us a sound that mixes several sub genres and also has major synthesizer support; this, combined with the use of two voices (clean and guttural/scream), it’s what many consider the bases of modern metal. This is just so we can have a notion of how they sound because this is one of those bands that, as first audition, can sound a little bit strange but they have some good details. I’m not going to analyze track by track, I’m just going to mention some: “Echoes” is one of those tracks that depends a lot of its synthesizer base, to which the guitars and the guttural voice give weight and deviate the music from a more commercial sonority; “Schattenlicht”,one of my favorites, starts with a death/thrash pace but somewhere in the middle starts slowing down until the end where it rises up again with some blast beats, which works pretty well when changing to “Empathy”, with a death intro but later on it uses some industrial details (mainly because of the synthesizer and drums); “Break New Ground” uses scratches in a death/core track. All this mixture of details ends up being what characterizes the bands and highlights her, along with scathing hooks and demolishing riffs. Lack only to mention that they sing in English and German, which works very well with the chosen sonority.

I must confess that metalcore in not my favorite sub genre in metal, which doesn’t invalidate that I listen to it (and enjoy it) and that many bands send me their work to review. And if I’m here now writing about it it’s because what I listened to is worth listening. As I’ve said above, “Putrefaction Of This Modern Time” deserves to be listened several times until you capture all the small details; I leave you with that challenge.
