Heavenwood - Diva's XX Anniversary

Longe vai o mês de Agosto de 1996, altura em que os Heavenwood lançavam o seu álbum de estreia “Diva”. Vinte anos depois e com novos membros na banda, chegou a altura de lembrar essa data com um concerto comemorativo, juntamente com uma edição remasterizada do álbum. O local escolhido foi a Sala 2 do Hard Club, tendo a primeira parte do concerto ficado a cargo de La Chanson Noire.

Charles Sangnoir apresentou-se em palco ao estilo “one man band”, munido apenas do seu teclado e sintetizador. Se para alguns isso poderia ser pouco a verdade é que foi suficiente, muito por força da sua capacidade vocal capaz de se sobrepor ao som dos instrumentos. Um artista que não conhecia e que se revelou uma boa surpresa.

A sala praticamente encheu para recordar um dos álbuns mais marcantes da história do underground nacional. Vinte anos depois voltaram-se a ouvir na íntegra os 10 temas que compõem “Diva”, com os presentes a acompanharem a banda em algumas músicas como por ex “Moonlight Girl” ou a vibrarem com outras como “Judith Heavenwood”. Mais do que um simples concerto, a noite era sem dúvida de comemoração e lembranças por isso a cerca de uma hora que dura o álbum não era suficiente, levando a banda a voltar para um encore de temas retirados dos seus outros trabalhos, de onde se destacam os temas “Suicidal Letters” e “The Empress” (aqui cantada apenas com vozes masculinas). O público é que não ficou satisfeito e pediu ainda mais… com a banda a aquiescer e a regressar para mais alguns temas.

E assim se passou uma excelente ante véspera de fim-de-ano na companhia de muitos amigos, ao som de muito boa música. Foi também o terminar de um ano em alta para a banda, com vários lançamentos e boa aceitação por parte da crítica e fãs. Resta-nos apenas agradecer em especial ao André Matos pelas facilidades concedidas. Até ao próximo concerto.

Long goes August 1996, time when Heavenwood released their debut album “Diva”. Twenty years later and with new band members came the time to remember that date with an anniversary concert, along with a remastered edition of the album. The chosen place was Hard Club’s Sala 2, being La Chanson Noire in charge of the first part of the concert.

Charles Sangnoir went to the stage in a “one man band” style with only his keyboard and synthesizer. If for some that could be less the truth is that it was enough for him, mostly because of his vocal ability being capable of overlap the sound of the instruments. Un unknown artist for me that turned into a good surprise.

It was almost a full house to remember one of the most iconic albums in national underground scene. Twenty years later we could year all “Diva’s” 10 tracks with the crowd joining the band in some songs like “Moonlight Girl” or thrilling with others like “Judith Heavenwood”. More than just a concert the night was undoubtedly of celebration and memories so the nearly one hour of the album’s length wasn’t enough, making the band returning for an encore of songs taken from their other albums, with an highlight for “Suicidal Letters” and “The Empress” (here song only with males voices). The audience wasn’t satisfied and asked for more… to which the band complied and returned for some more songs.

And so we had an excellent night before new Year’s eve in the company of lots of friends while listening to lots of good music. It was also an ending for a great year to the band, with several releases and good acceptance for fans and critics. Just wish to give a special thank you to André Matos for all the granted facilities. Until the next concert.
