Rudra é provavelmente uma das bandas mais ativas em Singapura mas também uma das menos conhecidas nesta parte do mundo. Com uma carreira que começou em 1992 (apesar do álbum de estreia ter sido lançado apenas em 1998), a banda conta já com 7 álbuns e com o oitavo ao virar da esquina. Tempo para falarmos com Simon (guitarrista da banda) acerca deste novo lançamento e dar a conhecer o seu trabalho a mais gente.

D: Vocês têm uma longa carreira mas são certamente menos conhecidos nesta parte do globo, portanto começa por apresentar a banda.
S: Como disseste a banda foi fundada em meados de 1992, em Singapura, pioneira no Metal Védico. Somos constituídos por 4 membros: Kathir na voz e baixo, Vinod e eu nas guitarras e Shiva na bateria.
D: Vocês denominam o vosso estilo como “Metal Védico”. Pelo que ouvi é algo entre o black/death. Explica-nos o significado de Védico.
S: Védico refere-se aos elementos de música clássica Indiana que incorporámos na nossa música e também ap conteúdo lírico que envolve toda a filosofia dos Védicos.
D: Foquemo-nos agora no novo álbum “Enemy of Duality” a ser lançado proximamente via Transcending Obscurity. Vai ser conceptual como os últimos 4?
S: Para o próximo álbum focámo-nos na filosofia Védica de Mandukya Upanishad. Cada canção deste trabalho é uma inspiração saída desses textos. Como tal sim, será um trabalho conceptual.
D: Vocês cantam apenas em Sânscrito ou também usam Inglês nas letras?
S: Usámos tanto Inglês como Sânscrito.
D: Qual o tema principal das vossas letras? É sobre os Védicos?
S: As nossas letras focam-se no conhecimento espiritual dos Védicos.
D: Espero que esta entrevista vos leve a conseguirem mais fãs. Por exemplo, têm alguns planos próximos para oua tournée pela Europa?
S: Como estamos na eminência de lançar o nosso oitavo álbum e temos planos para uma tournée, sem dúvida que gostaríamos de tocar na Europa. Estamos neste momento em negociações com promotores, esperemos que corra tudo pelo melhor.

Rudra is probably one of the most active bands in Singapore yet one of the lesser known in this part of the world. With a career that started in 1992 (although the debut was only released in 1998), the band has released 7 albums so far and the 8th one is just around the corner. Time to talk with Simon (band’s guitarist) about this new release and let more people to know their work.
Davi: Hello Simon, thank you for taking the time to talk with me about your work.
Simon: Greetings Davi and everyone reading this. The pleasure is ours, thank you very much for the opportunity.
D: You have a very long career but are surely less known in this part of the world, so start by introducing the band.
S: As you have mentioned we started off in the mid 1992, pioneering as the Vedic Metal band from Singapore. Our band consists of 4 members as follow: Kathir on Vocals and Bass, Vinod and me on Guitars and Shiva on Drums.
D: You name your style “Vedic Metal”. For what I’ve heard is something like black/death. Explain us what’s the meaning of Vedic.
S: Vedic refers to the Indian classical music elements that we incorporate in our music and also to the lyrical content that revolves around the philosophy of the Vedas.
D: Now focusing on the new album “Enemy of Duality” to be released shortly via Transcending Obscurity. Will it be conceptual like the previous four?
S: For the upcoming album we focused our attention in the Vedic philosophy of Mandukya Upanishad. Each song in this album is an inspiration from these texts. As such, it will be a conceptualized album.
D: You sing only in Sanskrit or do you use English in your lyrics?
S: We use both English and Sanskrit in our lyrics.
D: What’s the main theme in your lyrics? Is it about Vedic?
S: Our lyrics focus on the teachings on the spiritual knowledge of the Vedas.
D: I hope this interview will lead to more fans. Do you have plans for touring Europe, for instance?
S: As we are currently on the verge of releasing our 8th album and planning on our Tour, we would definitely love to play in Europe. We are currently tying up with the organizers, hope all goes well.
