Julian's Lullaby - Prisoner Of Emotions

Os Gregos Julian's Lullaby lançaram recentemente o seu segundo álbum “Prisoner Of Emotions” através da editora Russa Musica Production. Com uma sonoridade característica que tem tanto de peso como de melodia, revela alguns pormenores interessantes nas suas composições.

Um dos aspectos que mais me agradou na banda foi a forma como as vozes se completam muito bem. Por um lado temos a voz operática de Anna, forte e doce, por outro a voz mais rude mas nem por isso menos melodiosa de George; as diferentes intensidades vocais ajudam a preencher e a dar corpo às melodias que, de outro modo, soariam desprovidas de alma. Outra característica da banda é o bom uso que dão às guitarras; seja com uma toada mais progressiva, lenta e compassada ou com solos apelativos, acrescentam diversidade às composições o que lhes permite divergir entre géneros e demarcá-los de um em particular. Como se isto não bastasse ainda usam teclados que dão uma maior dimensão à orquestração, para além do violino que confere uma característica folk sinfónico a todo o arranjo. Apesar de toda esta versatilidade musical destaco a música que mais me agradou, “Hell’s Door”, pela sua aura mais negra e toada doom e também “Single Thought”, cantada apenas por Anna, com uma sonoridade que nos transporta para campos verdejantes e solarengos.

Julian's Lullaby é uma banda que conjuga bem a melodia e o peso, cuja musicalidade resultante transpira harmonia. A forma como aplicam as diversas sonoridades, instrumentos e vozes permite-lhes compôr algo que apresenta um som distinto e ao mesmo tempo permite-lhes demarcar de estereótipos e rótulos. No fundo, são uma manifestação artística da Arte.

Greek Julian's Lullaby have recently released their sophomore “Prisoner Of Emotions” via Russian record label Musica Production. With a characteristic sonority that has as much weight as melody reveals some interesting details in their compositions.

One of the aspects that most pleased me in this band was the way the voices complemented each other. On one hand we have Anna’s strong and sweet operatic voice and on the other George’s harsh but nevertheless less melodic voice; different vocal intensities help to fill and give body to the melodies that, otherwise, would sound soul devoid. Another of the band characteristic is the good use given to the guitars; whether with more progressive pace, slow and compassed or with appealing solos, add diversity to the compositions which allows them to differ between genres and distinguish them from a specific one. As if this wasn’t enough they even use keyboards which grants the orchestration a bigger dimension besides the violin that gives a symphonic folk characteristic to the entire arrangement. Despite all this musical versatility I highlight the music that pleased me the most, “Hell’s Door”, because of its dark aura e doom pace and also “Single Thought”, sang only by Anna with a sonority that takes as to sunny and green fields.

Julian's Lullaby is a band that combines well melody and weight, whose resulting music transpires harmony. The way they use different sonorities, instruments and voices makes them able to compose something that presents a distinct sound and at the same time enables them to demarcate from stereotypes and labels. At the bottom they’re an artistic manifestation of Art.
