Legacy Of Cynthia - Danse Macabre

Two years after releasing the album “Renaissance”, Legacy Of Cynthia return now with a new work titled “Danse Macabre”. The title refers to the inevitability towards all of us walk to while human beings, no matter the race, creed or social status. Maybe that’s why the band decided to follow different sonorities than the ones present in the debut album.

Different doesn’t mean better or worse, it’s just that, different. While in “Renaissance” I got the idea of a more “goth” sonority (you can read it here), in this second work I notice some more weight in the compositions, more projection of the guitars and even more groove; even Rui’s voice is harsher, as if it’s conveying more anger and nonconformity. Still it continues emanating a certain dark aura in its musicality mainly because of the conceptuality of the album where the band focus on social/political issues. Unshakable stands the musical quality with the band showing that they didn’t just made another album yet created musics that, although containing several influences inside them they ended up in a very cohesive work; it’s curious the way the sonority intensity decreases from first to last song, ending with a touch of gospel… deep down the personification of the album’s essence, we all walk to the silence of death.

This is one of the Portuguese bands that most pleased me when I heard the debut and still does, now with this “Danse Macabre”. Although the two works are distinct in its musicality I recommend both. Legacy Of Cynthia are starting to become a serious case in terms of quality music with high expectations in the scene.
