Legacy of Cynthia - Renaissance

One of the things I enjoy the most is to be among friends chatting about music. And by chatting I mean exchanging experiences or simply presenting new sonorities to others (and vice-versa). That’s why I’m here now typing these words, because a friend sent me some new stuff which I want to share with you reading this… I’m talking about the Portuguese band Legacy of Cynthia (LoC) and his debut album, “Renaissance”.

At first I (and the majority of us) tend to name the genre in which a band can be classified simply to make it easy for others to establish some sort of a pattern, some line of thought. But in this case a simple task like that can be a major pain because LoC combine a variety of influences in their conceptions. Using Metal as a base line for the music creation the band uses a Post Rock/Metal sonority (mainly in the ambient slow parts), some music have a Prog/Heavy solo and there’s also a Gothic Rock ambience, transversal in all the music. Maybe that’s why, in some parts, the vocals resemble Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto (at least to me). And talking about voices, what a beautiful duet at track #8, “The Silence” featuring Carina Leitão (ex-Sinmatic).

Another aspect I enjoyed was the sound quality of the music. Don’t forget we’re talking of a self-released CD. Although it’s quite common nowadays, many bands don’t put too much effort in this, which may become a negative experience for the listeners.

There isn’t much more to tell about the album, you must now ear it and judge by yourselves. And I hope you have as much fun as I did.

Here’s the tracklist:

1. Gnosis
2. Lygophilic
3. Dorian's Portrayed
4. Seven Sins
5. Bystander
6. The End Of Days
7. The Tale Of The Scarecrow
8. The Silence
9. Cain
10. Something To Die For
