Lloyd Cole passed by Casa da Música for an acoustic concert as part of “Playing the classic Lloyd Cole songbook 1983-1996” tour. In this fourth stop (of the tour, he’s an habitue in Portuguese stages) he presented the sold out audience with songs such as “Perfect Skin”, “No More Love Songs” or “Lost Weekend”.

Lloyd had a minor setback during “Rattlesnakes”, where his dry throat tricked him and forced him to a short pause for a sip of water. Nothing that could cause any harm to neither the rest of the night nor his sense of humor, has we could see during the concert. Stage contingencies or, as he played with the situation, age issues. Some people were arriving in the course of the concert and each time this occurred Lloyd just kept saying ‘Good evening, you haven’t missed nothing so far, just “Rattlesnakes”’. His sense of humor kept present in the “downtimes”; while he was tuning his guitar said he couldn’t speak at the same time because he was a man! Song to song and joke to joke the concert was going in a intimate and pleasurable way until the time to take a short interval. Highlight of this first part of the concert was the music “Jennifer She Said”, accompanied by the audience who cheered Lloyd with the biggest ovation of the night.

The second part brought an extra pair of arms… William Cole, Lloyd’s son, accompanied him at the guitars throughout the rest of the night, starting with “Don’t Look Back”. “Like Lovers Do” draw the second big ovation, the same happening with “Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken” which also had the honor to be sang along by the audience, although more timidly than “Jennifer She Said”. The concert continued has it has been with Lloyd showing skills in the art of telling jokes whenever needed, finishing his set at the sound of “Brand New Friend”. After one last standing ovation they came back to an encore with the songs “Lost Weekend” and “Forest Fire”.

We just wish to thank the opportunity given by Uguru and all the facilities given by Casa da Música.
