Mandragora Malevola - Awakening The Impvre

"Awakening the Impvre" is the first occultist manifesto by Mandragora Malevola (not counting the previous dark script from "Black Flame ov Illumination"). These work’s writings are based on Qayin and it only takes a quick reading to see that this duo guides itself by an obscure doctrine reflected in Kaos’ shouted verses.

Presenting themselves as a death/black band this work takes on other musical outlines from where it highlights a bigger melodic presence, not only in more “electronic” sounds but also in the inclusion of acoustic instruments that push the compositions for more black symphonic grounds, granting some epicness to several passages as well as contributing to the occultist environment of the entire album. There are also the obvious blast beats and the slow paced guitars that lower down the heartbeat towards doom but the other highlight goes to the good use of drums that, besides accompanying well the constant environment/rhythm changes also give an important contribute to the entire musical context. The album is well structured as a whole not ruling out any music, but nevertheless I emphasize "Awakening the Impvre", “In the Name ov The Serpent” and Apotheosis (Hvmana Manifestvs). Of all 11 tracks except the intro “Eden by Nightfall” which has a short speech, there are 2 instrumentals: “Blasphemia” e “Cemetery ov Thoughts”.

"Awakening the Impvre" is a clear evolution from the previous EP even in terms of production; bearing in mind that is self-produced it has great quality. I especially liked the path “change” to a more atmospheric and symphonic sonority. This is another proof of the excellent phase the Portuguese Underground is having, especially the extreme bands.
