Mist Of Misery Trilogy

Em 2016 os Suecos Mist Of Misery lançaram o seu segundo longa-duração “Absence”, que representou um passo em frente na sua sonoridade, apresentando maiores influências melódicas e sinfónicas nas suas composições o que resultou em paisagens musicais mais ricas e profundas, vincando a sua vertente melancólica e obscura. Como se isso não bastasse, lançaram no decorrer deste ano dois mini álbuns, “Shackles Of Life” e “Fields Of Isolation”, que acabam por complementar esse trabalho e tornar ainda mais rica a profusão musical de todo o conjunto.

“Shackles Of Life” combina alguns dos sons mais soturnos com excertos mais pesados e crus (“Broken Chains”), ao mesmo tempo que implementa momentos de solitária beleza como o solo de piano de “A Dreamless Void” e “Opening Chapter To A Solitary Confinement”. Algo que também me agradou bastante e ajuda à sensação de vazio existencial que podemos extrair deste trabalho é a faixa “Closing Chapter”, cantada num estilo narrativo enquanto se ouve um choroso soluçar de fundo. Um pouco dessa característica passa para “Fields Of Isolation”, faixa homónima introdutória do segundo mini álbum, onde se podem desde já perceber os contornos mais lúgubres deste trabalho. Continuam também presentes os amargos momentos musicais, seja em excertos nas faixas ou simplesmentes faixas curtas (neste trabalho destaco os violinos e o som do cravo nos sintetizadores), aqui numa dinâmica intercalável com as restantes músicas.

Quando soube que o objetivo da banda passava pelo lançamento dos dois mini álbuns, em complemento de “Absence” e numa espécie de ponte para o novo álbum a sair em 2018, decidi que teria de escrever sobre os três em conjunto; é que depois de os ouvirmos percebemos a forma como se emaranham, é como se “Shackles Of Life” e “Fields Of Isolation” fossem o desdobrar de “Absence” ao mesmo tempo que se completam e acabam por enaltecer e ultrapassar a obra inicial. Estes trabalhos deveriam ser “consumidos” juntos, deixo a sugestão para o lançamento de uma edição tripla, uma caixa com as 3 obras; eu certamente compraria uma.

In 2016 Swedish Mist Of Misery released their sophomore album “Absence” which meant a step forward in their sonority, presenting more melodic and symphonic influences in their compositions that led to richer and profound musical landscapes, creasing its melancholic and obscure aspect. As if that wasn’t enough they’ve released during this year two new mini albums, “Shackles Of Life” and “Fields Of Isolation”, which end up complementaring that work and making the all musical set profusion richer.

“Shackles Of Life” combines some of the most gloomy sounds with heavier and raw excerpts (“Broken Chains”), at the same time that implements moments of lonely beauty as in the piano solo for “A Dreamless Void” and “Opening Chapter To A Solitary Confinement”. Something that also pleased me most and helped to get the sensation of existential void that we can extract from this work is the track “Closing Chapter”, sang in a narrative style while we listen to a tearful sob in the back. Some of that characteristic passes to “Fields Of Isolation”, homonymous introductory track of the second mini album, where we can as of now understand the more mournful underlines of this work. Also keep present the sour musical moments, whether in excerpts in the tracks or simply short ones (in the work I highlight the violins and the sound of clove in the synths), here in a dynamic intersperse with the remaining tracks.

When I found out the intention of the band in releasing two mini albums in addition to “Absence” and in some sort of bridge to the newest work to be released in 2018, I decided that I should write about the three all together; it’s that after we listen to them we understand the way they entangled themselves, it’s as if “Shackles Of Life” and “Fields Of Isolation” were the unfolding of “Absence” and at the same time end up completing and praising and even surpassing the initial album. These works should be “consumed” together, I leave here the suggestion of a triple release, a box containing all the albums; I would definitely buy one.
