Os Holandeses Epica voltaram a Portugal para mais um concerto, desta vez inserido na tournée “Ultimate Principle Tour!” de promoção ao seu mais recente “The Holographic Principle”; com eles vieram os também Holandeses VUUR, nova banda de Anneke Van Giersbergen e os Tunisinos Myrath que se estrearam na cidade do Porto.
Coube aos estreantes abrirem o evento para uma casa já muito bem composta e perante um público delirante com o perfume arábico que emanava do palco. Já se esperava uma atuação curta mas nem por isso menos espetacular, abrilhantada pela presença de Kahina Spirit que acompanha a banda nesta tournée com a sua dança do ventre. Pelo meio de temas retirados dos seus 3 álbuns, Zaher Zorgati foi mostrando bom domínio da língua Portuguesa e deixou também a garantia de regresso ao nosso país já em Março próximo, desta vez em nome próprio para apresentarem o seu novo trabalho.
Os Epica, pelo carinho com que o público Português os recebe e pelas várias visitas que fazem ao nosso país, já são quase Portugueses. Desta vez vieram-nos mostrar o seu novo “The Holographic Principle”, tocando temas como “Edge Of The Blade”, “A Phantasmic Parade” ou “Beyond The Matrix”, não esquecendo os já clássicos e sempre pedidos “Cry for the Moon”, “Sancta Terra” ou “Consign to Oblivion”, entre outros temas. O concerto termina com um wall of death para “Consign to Oblivion”, seguido de um circle pit para gáudio de Isaac que durante o concerto não se cansou de pedir isso ao público presente. A nível visual é uma banda que aposta muito nesse capítulo, agradou-nos bastante o facto de, ao contrário de concertos anteriores, projetarem a banda como um todo e não se focando apenas em Simone. Das cinco vezes que já tivemos o prazer de os ver este foi sem dúvida um dos melhores concertos.
Anneke dispensa apresentações tal é o seu percurso musical. De regresso a Portugal, agora com a sua nova banda VUUR que se foca numa vertente mais pesada em termos de sonoridade, tocou temas do álbum de estreia “In This Moment We Are Free – Cities” aos quais juntou temas de outros projectos em que participou: “The Storm” (The Gentle Storm), “Fallout” (Devin Townsend Project) e “Strange Machines” (The Gathering).

Mesmo regressando muitas vezes ao nosso País cada concerto dos Epica é único, por isso conseguem sempre encher as salas. Desta vez fizeram-se acompanhar pela grande Anneke que mais uma vez mostra que em cada projecto em que envolve é uma garantia de sucesso; quanto aos Myrath, muito bom concerto e a certeza de regressarem, agora como cabeças-de-cartaz. Dutch band Epica returned to Portugal to another concert, this time a part of the “Ultimate Principle Tour!” in promotion of their latest work “The Holographic Principle”; with them came the also dutch VUUR, newest band of Anneke Van Giersbergen and Tunisian Myrath which debuted in Oporto.
The newcomers started the event before a well crowded house and with an audience thrilling with the arabic essence emanating from the stage. We we already expecting a short gig but nevertheless less spectacular, brightened with the presence of Kahina Spirit who’s accompanying this tour with her belly dance. Among the songs taken from their 3 albums, Zaher Zorgati showed good skills mastering the Portuguese language and also left the certainty of the return to our country next March, this time to a gig on their behalf to present their next work.
Epica, with the affection that Portuguese audience welcomes them and the several times they visit us, it’s as if they’re Portuguese as well. This time they came to show us the newest “The Holographic Principle”, playing songs like “Edge Of The Blade”, “A Phantasmic Parade” or “Beyond The Matrix”, not forgetting the classics and always requested “Cry for the Moon”, “Sancta Terra” ou “Consign to Oblivion”, among others. The concert ends with a wall of death for “Consign to Oblivion” followed by a circle pit for Isaac’s delight, who had been the entire concert asking the crowd for one. Visually it’s a band that puts a lot into that chapter and it pleased us the fact that, contrary of previous gigs, this time they’ve highlighted the band as an all not focusing entirely on Simone. Of the five times we had the pleasure to see them this was surely one of the best concerts.

Even returning several times to our country each Epica concert is unique, because of that they can easily sell out a venue. This time they’ve made themselves accompanied by the great Anneke that once more showed that each project she gets involved is a certainty of success; about Myrath, very good gig and the assurance of their return now as headliners. We just wish to thank Prime Artists for the opportunity and Hard Club for the facilities.
