De Itália costumam vir boas bandas em que por norma, independentemente do estilo escolhido, têm uma forte componente melódica, fruto talvez da sua herança clássica. É o caso dos Overkhaos que apresentam o seu álbum de estreia “Beware Of Truth”, lançado pela Rockshots Records, que com este trabalho se dão a conhecer a um vasto público e se arriscam a ser um caso de sucesso.
A faixa instrumental de quase 3 minutos que abre o álbum deixa logo no ar a certeza de que estamos perante uma banda que revela qualidade musical, não só ao nível da execução como também da composição, com uma forte predisposição para o power metal de contornos mais progressivos e guitarras a debitarem ganchos em força. Essa tendência musical acentua-se com “Silent Death” onde também se destacam as guitarras, aqui mais pelo peso que trazem à música, e que revelam já serem o fio condutor de toda a instrumentalização; certamente que criam as melodias a partir dos riffs trabalhando depois a parte rítmica em torno disso. Em “Khaos” percebe-se bem a influência que os Nevermore exercem na banda, destacando-se também o uso de uma voz mais gutural na parte final (a partir daqui uma presença habitual), dando mais ênfase à ideia do caos que a letra transmite, voltando depois a aperceber-mo-nos da “presença” da banda norte-Americana na ambiência da música “White Light”. “Die Catsaw!” acaba por ser a música mais fora de contexto musical de todo o álbum, com uma entrada forte e quase a roçar o death/thrash, alternando depois com o progressivo/alternativo numa faixa cheia de groove e peso. Curiosa a forma como a música termina e começa “Anna’s Song”; não sei se existe alguma relação entre ambas mas a verdade é, em todas as vezes que escutei este álbum, me parecia sempre a mesma música. Não quero dizer que soem ao mesmo, fico é com a sensação que as histórias estão ligadas e parecem formar uma faixa única de quase 13 minutos! Ao nível das letras, estas baseiam-se nas questões sociais mais fracturantes do momentos, como sejam as guerras, a opressão, a globalização e o consequente empobrecimento, as teorias da conspiração, etc.
“Beware Of Truth” é um álbum coeso e equilibrado em termos de peso e melodia, com uma forte mensagem social e alguma carga emocional, revelando maturidade musical dos membros da banda. A conjugação entre a harmonia do progressivo e a eloquência do power, combinados com a veia mais negra de algumas das suas influências são o garante de que os Overkhaos conseguem apelar a um grande número de fãs, podendo estes ter a certeza de escutar trabalhos de grande qualidade.

From Italy usually come good bands that although their style, typically have a strong melodic approach, maybe something inherited from their classical legacy. That’s the case of Overkhaos who present the debut album “Beware Of Truth”, released via Rockshots Records, this way showing their work to a vast audience and risking to become a success.
The almost 3 minutes instrumental track that starts the album immediately leaves us with the certainty there we are in the presence of a band that shows musical quality, not only regarding technique but also in composition, with a strong approach to power metal with a shapes of progressive and guitars rattling off a great amount of hooks. That musical tendency gets enhanced with “Silent Death” where again the guitars get highlighted, here more due to the weight they imprint to the music, also revealing to be the main conductor of all instrumentalization; it’s almost certain the band starts by creating the riffs for the melodies working on the rhythmic part accordingly. In “Khaos” we can perceive the influence that Nevermore has in the band, highlighting also the use of a more guttural voice in the end (from now on in every songs), giving more emphasis to the idea of chaos transmitted by the lyrics, afterwards we sense that “presence” on the north-American band in the ambience of “White Light”. “Die Catsaw!” ends up being the “out of the box” song regarding the album’s musical context, with a strong entry almost touching death/thrash, alternating afterwards with a prog/alternative in a track full of groove and weight. Curious the way the music ends and starts “Anna’s Song”; don’t know if there’s a relation between the two but the truth is, every time I’ve listened to the album they’ve also sounded like the same song. Not saying they sound alike, I just get the feeling that both histories are connected and seem to create an unique track with almost 13 minutes long! Regarding the lyrics they are based on the most divisive issues of the moment, such as wars, oppression, globalization and consequent impoverishment, conspiracy theories, etc.
“Beware Of Truth” is a cohesive album and balanced regarding weight and melody, with a strong social message and some emotional charge, revealing musical maturity of the band members. The mixture between the harmony of the prog and the eloquence of power metal, combined with a darker vein of some of their influences are a certainty that Overkhaos can appeal to a wide number of fans, with these being certain to listen to high quality albums.
