No ano em que comemoram uma década de existência, os Alemães Sober Truth lançaram o seu quarto trabalho intitulado “Locust ▼ Lunatic Asylum” que mantém a mistura de estilos que os caracteriza, sempre com muito groove.
Depois de uma primeira faixa instrumental ao estilo electrónico, “Leave The Locust In The Lunatic Asylum” imprime um toque gótico/industrial envolto de uma aura negra à música que acaba por ser a que dá ênfase ao título do álbum. É essa mesma aura que passa para “Paragon”, com o ritmo das guitarras a alternar entre riffs lentos e pesados com momentos mais acelerados, acompanhados por um psicadelismo desconcertante que emana do sintetizador. “Murphys Law” é a primeira grande projecção das duas vozes, num misto death/groove de onde sobressai também a bateria, numa conjugação perfeita de poder e melodia numa das melhores faixas do álbum. “Powergenerator” mantém o groove mas entra mais por caminhos thrash com uma pitada de alternativo que, em conjunto com o solo, criam uma mescla que assume contornos de progressivo. Com uma toada mais apelativa, riffs orelhudos e a puxar ao folk damos as “Boas-vindas a Majula”, para depois escutarmos uma “Collapse” ao estilo stoner servida com requintes modernos, onde não falta peso e dinamismo à composição. “My Enemy” trás de volta o groove progressivo a pender para o thrash, com a voz a impor peso e sujidade; outra das grandes faixas do álbum. “Procrastination” tem um ritmo bem apropriado ao tema, com diversas alterações rápido/lento a pender mais para o industrial, numa espécie de luta bipolar entre o ser e a razão. “Cold Chapter” é uma faixa mais down tempo que vai buscar inspiração ao djent para depois o álbum finalizar com uma “Sober” enérgica e cheia de groove, maioritariamente metal moderno mas com um toque de electro gótico.
Devo confessar que foi a primeira vez que ouvi Sober Truth e só me resta perguntar a mim mesmo: porquê? É fácil ficarmos agarrados ao seu som, uma mistura de várias sonoridades onde o único obstáculo é a sua própria superação. A banda consegue conjugar diversos elementos para formar composições que são de audição fácil e com muito groove, nas quais destaco a forte presença da bateria e das vozes. Agora só me resta mesmo colocar “Locust ▼ Lunatic Asylum” um pouco de parte e ir escutar a restante discografia de Sober Truth para perceber o que perdi até hoje.

In the year of their tenth anniversary German band Sober Truth release their fourth work named “Locust ▼ Lunatic Asylum” which maintains the mixture of gender that characterizes them, always with a lot of groove.
After the first electronic instrumental track, “Leave The Locust In The Lunatic Asylum” imprints to the song a goth/industrial touch wrapped in a dark aura, track that becomes the one giving emphasis to the album title. It’s that same aura that passes on to “Paragon” with the rhythm of the guitars alternating between slow and heavy riffs with more fast paced moments, accompanied by a bewildering psychedelic state that emanates from the synth. “Murphys Law” it’s the first great projection of the two voices, in a death/groove type, from where also the drums are highlighted in a perfect combination of power and melody in one of the best tracks in the album. “Powergenerator” keeps the groove but diverts to thrash with a bit of alternative which, all combined with the solo, create a mixture that takes a prog form. With a more appealing tune, catchy riffs and sounding like folk we “Welcome to Majula”, to afterwards we listen to a “Collapse” more into stoner and served with modern twitches, in a composition filled with height and dynamism. “My Enemy” brings back prog groove that leans to thrash, with the vocals imposing weight and filth; another of the album’s great track. “Procrastination” has a well appropriated rhythm to the title with several fast/slow changes leaning more to industrial, in a bipolar type of fight between self and reason. “Cold Chapter” is a more down tempo track that gets its inspiration in djent, with the album afterwards being complete with an energetic and full of groove “Sober”, mainly modern metal but with a touch of electro goth.
I must confess this was the first time I’ve listened to Sober Truth and I can only ask to myself: why? It’s easy for us to get hooked to their sound, a mixture of several sonorities where the only obstacle it’s their own overcoming. The band manages to mixture several elements in order to form easy listenable compositions and full of groove, in which I highlight drums strong presence and the voices. Now I must put “Locust ▼ Lunatic Asylum” aside while I try to recover the lost time and go listening to Sober Truth previous records.
