Qual seria o resultado se juntássemos a majestosidade do black metal atmosférico com a alma de inspiração Celta e um toque de Highlands? Até há bem pouco tempo poderíamos especular sobre se seria uma combinação aceitável, hoje temos a certeza pelas mãos dos Sojourner.
Não vale a pena perder muito tempo há procura das palavras para descrever “Empires Of Ash”, este é daqueles trabalhos que se narram por si com todas as sensações que nos percorrem a alma enquanto o escutamos. Em todas as faixas temos uma introdução em que, na maioria dos temas, se pode escutar a flauta, (instrumento tão ligado à Natureza na cultura supra citada), desembocando de seguida no som das guitarras eléctricas. Mesmo assim, se fecharmos os olhos e nos concentrarmos no que está “atrás” das guitarras, conseguimos ter a noção de toda a beleza musical que está subjacente ao conceito transmitido pelo álbum. Não quero com isto dizer que as guitarras não têm peso, acho é que o têm na dose certa, mascarando de forma ténue toda essa harmonia; estabelecendo um paralelismo com a mensagem nas letras e atendendo ao que a banda diz “...o álbum pode-se basear na forma como o Homem se autodestrói e à Natureza…”, é como se as guitarras tentassem ocultar a beleza natural da composição musical mas para o ouvido atento ela continua bem presente. É certo que este trabalho não é totalmente conceptual mas consegue-se perceber uma mensagem, seja ela de beleza, natureza, humanidade, nenhuma ou todas em conjunto. Destaque também para a faixa “The Pale Host”, inteiramente cantada por Chloe.
Mais do que um simples álbum este trabalho é uma obra de arte, que cumpre bem o seu papel: o de levar os ouvintes a dele retirarem sensações e mensagens díspares, ao mesmo tempo que purifica a alma. Mais do que recomendado, obrigatório. Já está disponível em formato digital estando o suporte físico previsto para 13 de Junho através da Italiana Avantgard Music.

What would be the result if we combine the majesty of atmospheric black metal with the Celtic soul and a touch of Highlands? Until recently we could only speculate about if it would be an acceptable combination, now we can be sure of that by the hands of Sojourner.
No need in wasting time looking for the right words to describe “Empires Of Ash”, this is one of those works that speak for themselves with all the sensations that flow within our soul when we listen to it. In all tracks we have an intro where, in most ones, we can hear a flute (instrument so connected to Nature in the above-mentioned culture), next flowing into the sound of the electric guitar. Even so, if we close our eyes and focus on what’s “behind” the guitars, we can have the notion of the entire musical beauty underlying the concept transmitted by the album. I’m not saying the guitars aren’t heavy, just feel they have the right dose of heaviness, tenuously masking all that harmony; establishing a parallel with the message in the lyrics and paying attention to what the band says “...the album can be based on how man is destroying himself and nature…”, it’s as if the guitars are trying to hide the musical composition’s natural beauty but, for the keen ear, she’s still well present. Surely this work in not entirely conceptual but we can perceive a message, one of beauty, nature, humanity, none or all combined. Also to emphasize the track “The Pale Host”, entirely sang by Chloe.
More than a simple album this work is a work-of-art, which plays his roll very well: to make the listeners to experience various sensations and messages and at the same time purifying the soul. More than recommended it’s mandatory. It is now available in digital format and will be in physical support on June 13th through Italian label Avantgard Music.
