The Evil Dead - Earth Inferno

O estilo de fusão é algo que aprecio ouvir, quer seja em sonoridades mais fortes ou outras. Se em alguns casos o som obtido acaba por não ser apelativo, outros há em que as bandas conseguem conjugar diversos estilos cujo resultado final é algo digno de ser apreciado. É o caso de “Earth Inferno”, o novo trabalho dos Argentinos The Evil Dead.

Numa primeira olhadela ao nome das faixas fica-se logo com a sensação de que estamos perante uma banda de death metal, o que não é de todo descabido, ainda para mais depois de ouvirmos a voz de Alejandro. Agora se juntarmos o som que produzem, bem… aí tudo se complica (para melhor). É que estes senhores fazem tudo menos música rotulável, tal o número de influências que se podem escutar ao longo das suas composições. Talvez seja por isso que chamam ao seu estilo de “Electric Evil Metal”, mais do que um subgênero musical é uma forma de estar na música. Num momento podemos estar a ouvir uma passagem thrash como logo de seguida levamos com um solo demolidor ao melhor estilo progressivo; podemos apreciar uns belos acordes ao estilo neoclássico como de repente somos abalroados por uma descarga de puro rock n’ roll. O que mais me agrada nas sua músicas nem é tanto a junção de estilos (há mais bandas a fazê-lo e igualmente bem) mas sim a energia e o ritmo contagiante que imprimem. O uso de três guitarras é uma peça-chave na sua sonoridade mas o facto de serem Sul-Americanos contribui para o calor e groove que emanam das suas composições.

Poderia enumerar algumas das músicas que mais aprecio mas não era justo com as que ficassem de fora. As influências são tantas que é impossível destacar apenas algumas faixas; este é um álbum que se consome do princípio ao fim, uma e outra vez, sem cansar os vossos ouvidos. Pela qualidade demonstrada os The Evil Dead são uma banda que merece destaque alargado, espero que com este texto consiga ajudá-los nessa caminhada.

Fusion style is something I enjoy listening to, whether in strong sonorities or not. If in some cases the resulting sound turns out to be less appealing, in others the bands manage to mix different styles which final result is something worth listening to. That’s the case of “Earth Inferno”, Argentinian The Evil Dead sophomore album.

At first glimpse at track names we get the feeling to be in the presence of a death metal band, which isn’t that absurd, even more after we listen to Alejandro’s voice. Now if we add the sound they make, well… things get a little bit complicated (for the better). It’s because what this gentleman do is everything except labeled music, such is the quantity of influences we can listen to in their songs. Maybe that’s why they call their style “Electric Evil Metal”, more than a musical sub-genre it’s a way of living music. One time we can be listening to a thrash passage and right after we get this prog like style demolishing riff; we can just enjoy some fine neoclassic chords and all of the sudden we are rammed by a pure rock n’ roll discharge. What pleases me more in their music is not the mixture of styles (there are more band doing it and also in a good way) but the energy and the contagious rhythm they imprint to their songs. The use of three guitars is also a key-part in their sonority but the fact they’re Southern Americans plays a role in the warmth and groove that emanate from their compositions.

I could list some of their songs that I enjoy the most but that wouldn’t be fair for the non chosen. The influences are in such a number that it’s impossible to highlight just a few songs; this is an album to be consumed from beginning to end, over and over again, without fatiguing your ears. By the quality shown The Evil Dead is a band that deserves extended highlight and I do hope I can be of assistance in that journey with this text.
