“Of Fire And Ashes Pt.1” é o novo trabalho dos Espanhóis The Third Grade. Desde o seu primeiro lançamento em 2012 que esta banda tem mostrado que o seu género rock progressivo facilmente se adapta a diversos estilos, intensidades e ritmos. Neste novo registo podemos encontrar 2 músicas (a terceira é uma versão rádio para “Ice”) demonstrativas do que disse atrás e, ao mesmo tempo, o espelho do refinamento musical que a banda vai desenvolvendo a cada novo trabalho. “Ice”, o single utilizado para promoção deste trabalho, tem uma forte vertente rock progressivo à qual são adicionados elementos rock espacial; nos primeiro 5 minutos funciona quase como uma “mostra” da voz de Maria com uma sonoridade à sua medida, bem acompanhada por Jose Masiá, altura em que sobressai o solo de guitarra e a música ganha mais consistência e peso até ao fade out final. “Changes” tem uma entrada mais voltada para o metal progressivo a meias com o clássico, a espaços intercalando com o rock progressivo e o metal sinfónico (nesta fase com a voz gutural à mistura); digno de destaque o solo por volta do minuto 5 numa toada progressiva mas rapidamente evoluindo para o clássico sem nunca perder melodia e groove, mais adiante incorporando os ritmos quentes da salsa e cha-cha-cha antes de retomar os caminhos do metal com guitarras mais pesadas e novamente a voz gutural (e tudo isto em pouco mais de metade do tempo total da música!). Esta versatilidade de estilos e constante alternância de ritmos e ambiência musical mantém-se até ao final da faixa numa mostra de qualidade técnica que resulta de todo o trabalho desenvolvido pela banda ao longo dos sucessivos lançamentos.

“Of Fire And Ashes Pt.1” is Spanish The Third Grade newest work. Since their debut in 2012 the band has been showing that their prog rock style easily adapts into several other styles, intensities and rhythms. In this new record we can find 2 songs (the third one is a radio version for “Ice”) that demonstrate what I said before and, at the same time, are the reflexion of the musical refinement the band has been developing at each new release. “Ice”, the single used to promote this EP, has a strong prog rock approach to which are added space rock elements; in the first 5 minutes it works as some sort of “showing” for Maria’s voice with a sonority that fits her, well accompanied by Jose Masiá, instance where the guitar solo highlights and the music gains more weight and consistency until the final fade out. “Changes” starts more into prog metal mixed with classic, sometimes merging with prog rock and symphonic metal (in this phase with gutturals); worthy mentioning is the solo around minute 5 in a prog pace but rapidly evolving into classic without losing melody nor groove, later on embodying hot rhythms like salsa and cha-cha-cha before returning to metal paths with heavier guitars and guttural voice again (and all of this in less more than half the songs length!). This versatility of styles and constant shifting in terms of rhythm and ambiance is kept until the end of the track in an show of technical quality which results of all the work developed by the band throughout their releases.
