For the third and last day of VOA ‘15 the weather reserved us a warmth and sunny day. before the concerts start and same as the last year, time for António Parada to present his new book, “Adão e Eva”. Moonshade’s vocalist Ricardo was the guest spokesman.
Right after on stage the Australians Ne Obliviscaris. I was looking forward with some expectation to see the band’s debut on National soil; the aim was set high and they didn’t outwited me. With a Progressive Melodic Metal they easily grab the audience that anxiously await for them; the complex musical structure, whose violin stresses out and provides a touch of softness, sounds well and denotes the musicians quality. I just point out one thing: they played 5 very long songs which caused dullness in some people. For such an event maybe it would have been wiser to play more and shorter musics. Just a personal opinion that doesn’t pinches their gig...
After this moment of (excellent) musical quality, time now to lively the crowd with some joyful tunes and, due to the hot day, time also for some cold beers. Nothing better than to call on stage the Irish Alestorm; with Pirate Folk Metal good mood was guaranteed, or weren’t they provided with “Drink”, “Wenches & Mead”, “Rum” and other great tunes capable of turning anyone into a fearful pirate! Without a doubt the most festive concert of all event with was given to us by (one of) the most demanded bands by the public in social networks, before the alignment was closed.
Known as a “band that unifies bands”, the first (if not the only) Israeli Metal band to play in Arab soil and one that has many followers all around the globe from all religions and beliefs, Orphaned Land came once more to Portugal to inspire us with their joy and prove that Metal (and music in general) bring nations together. Starting to say “All Is One”, they were parading Progressive Folk with a scent of oriental essences until we found ourselves “Entering The Ark” and they covered us with “Ornaments of Gold”. Thrasher, Black, Rocker, everyone communed with this journey and gave the well deserved final ovation, proving the band deserves their status.
Repeaters alike in our country (and at VOA too), North- American Overkill came to give us another excelente concert of old school Thrash at the commands of Bobby Blitz. Was a little bit clumsy about this gig because I consider “White Devil Armory” very similar to previous one (and for me one of their best albuns) “The Electric Age”; fortunately the gig’s alignment encompassed some of their best musics like “Rotten To The Core”, “Electric Rattlesnake”, “Bring Me The Night” or “Overkill”. Without any surprise but also without compromising their act, gave a show capable of maintain the crowd lively and cheerful for the last acts.
Unfortunately the next day was working day for me, starting very early. For that reason I left even before Bloodbath finish their show and, for that reason, couldn’t attend Ironsword gig. To my regret because I Enjoy Traditional and Epic Heavy Metal; have to postpone it to some other time.
And so were the 3 days of VOA ‘15, from my perspective. Just wish to thank Prime Artists for another opportunity to make presence. More next year \m/
