Vulpus - Certitude

The name Vulpus comes from the merging of the Latin names Vulpes (Fox) and Lupus (Wolf); both species are part of the Canidae family and are natural predators, being one of the major differences the interaction between them and Humans. You now ask: what does this has to do with the band Vulpus? Nothing… and everything.

Most people seek everyday for a more global and unite society (although not always in the best way), even so there are also the ones who prefer to isolate and be kept aside. But both groups eventually end up, in certain moments of their lives, to “switch sides” either for convenience or necessity; from there comes the analogy with the archetype Vulpus that reflects Man’s will to highlight in self advantage but deep down depends of an all to survive, the same way the wolves organize itself for protection in a pack. That existential duality in conveyed to us in the means of the band’s constant roaming in the black metal specter, altering between the blast beats with screaming vocals, the barren musical landscapes of post-black ambiance (“Hell is Truth Seen Too Late”) or the more direct and traditional black metal (“Like Troxler’s Fading”), in an harmony appealing to the senses and inner self introspection. in a more mythological approach the archetype of the Vulpus creature it’s a crossing between will strength of will and cunningness, notion that also conveys to us through the album’s name “Certitude” (Certainty + Attitude).

This Vulpus’ debut album presents itself as a thesis of principles, musically devoid of boundaries (although mainly encircled in black metal), whose sonority floats freely between states of mind inviting the listener to deprive itself from prejudices and board a trip to the inner part of the Being. “Certitude” is to be consumed with caution taking the risk to be intellectually addictive.
