Há sempre duas formas de ver as situações, pela positiva ou pela negativa; a nossa reacção a elas varia conforme o nosso estado de espírito mas também pela maneira como elas nos são apresentadas. Neste caso em concreto as sensações que nos são transmitidas pelo Death/Doom tendem a ser negras, tristes e melancólicas; cabe ao ouvinte perceber onde está a beleza e a magia mas, se as obras já vierem com excelência, o trabalho torna-se mais fácil. É o caso de “In Memoriam”, terceiro álbum dos Suecos When Nothing Remains.
Logo na faixa #1 “Reunited In The Grave” temos a súmula do que acabei de dizer. Durante os seus quase 11 minutos é perceptível uma nostalgia que se quer alegre por oposição à tristeza dos acordes; basta atentar à capa do álbum para se perceber mesmo isso, de que é possível obter uma sensação de conforto nas situações mais improváveis. Ou mesmo na faixa #3 “In Memoriam”, em que no início se chora a partida de alguém amado mas que termina com uma mensagem de esperança. Destaco também a faixa #7 “Eternal Slumber” com uma toada mais épica ali pelo meio e a belíssima voz de Vera Ortiz (Inner Stream) na faixa #5 “The Soil In My Hand”. Musicalmente percebe-se o trabalho da banda em tornar este álbum orquestralmente apelativo sem comprometer a sua aura de beleza épica que o rodeia da primeira à última faixa. E que melhor maneira de terminar esta história senão com a voz dos espíritos da floresta… fantástico.
Diz o ditado que “há terceira é de vez”; se dúvidas houvessem quanto ao valor musical desta trilogia (“As All Torn Asunder” - 2012 | “Thy Dark Serenity” - 2013), só por si o hiato maior indicia um maior empenho e cuidado na composição. Recomenda-se a escuta atenta das 3 obras para se perceber em pleno a dimensão da história.

There are always two ways to see situation, a positive and a negative way; our reaction to them depends on our state of mind but also by the way they are shown to us. In this particular case the sensations we receive by Death/Doom tend to be dark, sad and melancholic; it’s up to the listener to perceive where’s the magic and the beauty but, if the work is presented with excellency, the task becomes easier. That’s the case of “In Memoriam”, third album from Swedish When Nothing Remains.
Right on track #1 “Reunited In The Grave” we have the sum-up of what I just said. Along her nearly 11 minutes length we can notice a nostalgy, as we want, happy by opposition to the sadness of the chords; we just need to take a look to the album cover to see just that, that it is possible to get a sensation of comfort in the most unlikely situations. Or even in track #3 “In Memoriam”, when in the beginning cries for the departure of a loved one but it ends with a message of hope. I also highlight track #7 “Eternal Slumber” with an epic momentum somewhere in the middle and the beautiful voice of Vera Ortiz (Inner Stream) in track #5 “The Soil In My Hand”. Musically we can perceive the band’s work in making this album orchestrally appealing without compromising his aura of epicness beauty that surrounds it from the first until the last track. And what better way to finish the story but to the voice of the spirits of the forest… fantastic.
The saying goes like “third is a charm”; were there any doubts regarding the musical value of this trilogy (“As All Torn Asunder” - 2012 | “Thy Dark Serenity” - 2013), just by itself the major gap shows a bigger commitment and concern with the arrangements. It is recommended the careful listening of all 3 albums to fully comprehend the entire history dimension.
